Shelter from the Storm

Shelter from the Storm

THANK YOU! Because of your generosity to our Shelter from the Storm capital campaign, Women’s Center & Shelter received much needed building renovations to provide even more dignity and hope to all who enter. YOU have made a difference for thousands of women experiencing intimate partner violence and their children.

In order to meet the demand for services and provide a welcoming, safe and secure environment to best facilitate healing, Women’s Center & Shelter launched a $12 million capital campaign in 2015. The Shelter from the Storm capital campaign focused on three main areas:

  • SANCTUARY SECURED – A focus on safety and security
  • CENTERED SERVICES – Warm, welcoming, and accessible environment
  • CHILD FOCUSED – Children playing, learning and growing together

Give Your Assistance – There is Still Time To Help!

To date, we have reached our original fundraising goal of $10.9 million. Toward the end of the project, we were presented with additional opportunities, which increased the cost $12 million.Your donation will provide access, security and hope to even more women and children suffering from the effects of domestic violence.

Our Vision of Hope for Survivors of Domestic Abuse

Connecting to a domestic violence program is the single most important factor in reducing intimate partner violence fatalities , injuries and re-assaults. We know that the right environment helps the healing process and allows survivors to begin new lives free from fear and abuse. Building renovations through the Shelter from the Storm capital campaign provide a safer environment with ample open space, and the capacity to have multiple areas for children and their mothers to interact and connect during a time of extraordinary crises.

Emergency Shelter capacity expanded from 36 to 47 beds to ensure for the safety of even more women and children. To further break down barriers preventing women from leaving an abusive relationship, renovations included a Pet Area so that survivors can feel confident in bringing their pets with them.

Our newly renovated building provides those who need it with Shelter from the Storm. View the Shelter from the Storm Case for Support to learn more.

Hope can be seen on the faces of those served by Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh. A newly renovated building provides even more hope to women experiencing intimate partner violence, as well as children witnesses of domestic abuse .
