Partner abuse can take many different forms— some more hidden than others. It may not be obvious to friends and family that abuse is even taking place, but you might be noticing red flags. You might be unsure whether you are in an abusive relationship or perhaps you worry that people won’t believe you. We will believe you.

WC&S Can Help

We are more than an emergency shelter for adults experiencing domestic violence and their children.

We are a safe harbor that provides specialized care for survivors who have experienced all types of intimate partner violence. WC&S offers programs and services that support a survivor’s entire journey toward safety and healing.

Emergency Shelter provides safety for adults and their family (children and pets) in immediate, lethal danger. Core services for Shelter residents include safety planning, goal planning, and advocacy for housing, career, physical, and mental health.

Support groups are available to survivors whether or not they have used Emergency Shelter services. Groups support building life skills, recognizing reproductive coercion, fostering wellness, developing healthy relationships, providing LGBTQIA+ support, and more.

The Children’s Program is safe, welcoming, nurturing space where child survivors of domestic violence can heal from trauma. Children’s counseling is also offered to children for issues related to violence they may have witnessed and/or experienced.

Individual Therapy helps survivors to cope with the effects of Intimate Partner Violence, including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and anxiety.

Legal Advocacy helps survivors navigate the court system by providing information, resources, counseling, and free ongoing support. Legal advocates guide survivors and accompany them to court hearings.

The Refugees, Immigrants, and Limited-English (RIL) Team is multilingual and works at two levels— assisting individual clients and advocating for systems-level improvements.

Knowing the signs is an important step in helping a person experiencing abuse. If you’re unsure of the best way to help, contact our hotline. The WC&S team is able to assist friends, family, and coworkers seeking help on behalf of a loved one who is experiencing abuse.

Common Signs of Abuse

  • Their partner embarrasses them or puts them down in front of other people
  • They frequently worry about upsetting their partner
  • Their partner is extremely jealous or possessive
  • They are spending less and less time with friends and family
  • There are noticeable changes in their personality like sadness and anxiousness
