Workplace Resources – STANDING FIRM
STANDING FIRM is a membership organization of employers who recognize and respond to the human costs of partner violence in the workplace and workforce. We offer a suite of employer services to address policy and practice questions, deliver employee and manager education, and offer tools for taking effective organizational action to address the impact of domestic violence.
STANDING FIRM delivers workplace-based consulting, training, policy development, and awareness programming to assist employers as they address the impact that domestic violence has on the safety, equity, and well-being of their employees.
STANDING FIRM also works directly with employer clients and engages in system advocacy to increase the participation of employer support for employees nationwide on the impact of DV in the workplace.
Why Address Domestic Violence in the Workplace
There are both moral and business cases for employers to take an active role in supporting worker health, equity, and safety by formally addressing the impact of domestic violence. More than 25% of workplace violence incidents have originated in a domestic violence situation, and one in three employees have experienced DV/IPV. The negative health impact of DV is well documented as well.
Having a workplace safety plan for when an employee is experiencing DV is critical for the safety and welfare of the employee and for their colleagues. STANDING FIRM uses the Recognize, Respond, and Refer model, which prepares managers to act efficiently and effectively in a timely manner to engage with those employees impacted.
Designed for Employers and Professional Organizations
The program is open to employers of any size, including local, regional, and national corporations, non-profits, and schools large and small. It is also well-suited to professional business associations and networks, and business resource groups.
