Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh Confidentiality Policy

The address of WC&S is to be kept confidential. It is the policy of Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh (WC&S) to hold confidential all communications, observations, and information made by, among, or about clients, staff, volunteers, and the board of this organization.

Exceptions to confidentiality are as follows:

If a client informs a WC&S worker that they intend to commit a violent crime, the worker will report this information to their Supervisor or WC&S contact person.

The person receiving the report may disclose the information to the appropriate legal authority and will inform the client that they are taking this action. If a client informs a WC&S worker that they are intending to harm themself, the worker will attempt to have the client agree not to carry out the intent. If the client is unable to agree to maintain their personal safety, the worker will speak to their Supervisor or WC&S contact person. If after further discussion the client is still unable to make a plan for their own safety, a report will be made to the appropriate mental health agency.

WC&S is a legally mandated child abuse reporting agency. If a client informs a worker about endangering or abusing a child, if a child discloses an incident of endangerment or abuse, or if a worker observes an incident, we are required by law to report to the Child Protective Services agency. We will work with the parent who is our client to urge them to report the incident herself, but in the absence of such reporting we are required to report and document the report.

WC&S is a Safe Zone. Alcohol and drugs of any kind are not allowed on the premises, and weapons of any kind are not allowed in the building.

Publicity Release

I am willing to be photographed by Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh (WC&S).

I understand that while volunteering, my photograph may be taken. I also understand that any photographs taken could be reproduced in the future by Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh and used in brochures, annual reports, Rosewood (WC&S Newsletter), the WC&S webpage, and/or other publications and publicity.

COVID-19 Protocols

WC&S has recently updated its COVID-19 protocols. It is no longer necessary to be vaccinated to volunteer at WC&S, and masking is now optional when working inside the building. All volunteers must read and agree to the following:

– I understand that clients, their children, WC&S staff, and other volunteers may not be fully vaccinated.

– I understand that masking inside the WC&S building is optional.

– If I am feeling sick on the day of my volunteer opportunity, I will stay home.
